Srinagar, Nov 20 (KNS): At least 45 persons including 40 ITBP jawans stranded on Zojila top IN Sonamarg area in Ganderbal district were rescued late Sunday night in a swift operation by personnel of Border Road Organization.
The evacuation started on information that the vehicles coming from Kargil to Srinagar got stuck at the Capitan Mohr due to the icy and slippery road.
“The Border Roads officials along with troops of 115 Infantry Batallion TA rushed to the spot along with snow cutters and necessary equipment and started the clearance of the snow at the Capitan Mohr,” Captain Niraj Kumar Singh of Project Beacon said.
Singh said that rescue operation which started at 5 Pm on Saturday night and culminated on Sunday and 45 stranded commuters were rescued “About 40 ITBP personnel and five locals were trapped in snow. The whole stretch was icy because of sub zero temperature at Zojila Top and the vehicles got stuck amid chaos,” the Captain said. (KNS)
