Asks civil Society to identify competent lawyer to defend case in SC

Srinagar, Sep 05 (KNS): Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader, Prof. Saifuddin Soz on Wednesday asked Kashmir Civil Society to identify a competent and a dependable lawyer to defend its case in the Supreme Court of India.
“The Attorney General of India K.K. Venugopal and Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta were not expected to toe the line of the people of Kashmir on the question of Article 35-A of the Constitution of India. They said what they said on behalf of the Govt. of India,” Soz said in a statement issued to KNS.
“Now, the National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, the other day, opined that the Institution of J&K Constituent Assembly was an aberration etc. etc. and added a dimension to the debate which amply proves that the BJP Govt. and the Party itself happened to be solidly behind the RSS on the question of Article 35-A,” he said.
“Since Fali Nariman is not available as he has decisively said that he considers the Governor’s rule as the direct rule from the Central Govt., he would not be available to plead the case before the Supreme Court,” he added.
“It is, therefore, necessary that Kashmir Civil Society immediately identifies a competent and a dependable lawyer to defend its case in the Supreme Court of India,” Soz said. (KNS)
