Party wants Governor’s rule to manage situation: Madhav

Srinagar, Jun 19 (KNS): After four years of rule in Jammu and Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday pulled out of its ruling alliance with the regional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, saying that the party wants the governor’s rule to manage the situation.
The decision was taken by the BJP party president, Amit Shah after holding meeting with the party ministers in the state.
The PDP-BJP had forged an alliance in 2015 after people threw fractured mandate in the 2014 assembly elections. Opposition mainstream political parties had termed the formation of government by PDP-BJP as ‘an unholy alliance, saying that people are unhappy with the current dispensation.
The BJP today held a meeting at New Delhi under the presidentship of Amit Shah in which it decided to break the alliance Singh PDP.
Jammu and Kashmir in-charge, Ram Madhav in a presser said, “The PDP-BJP alliance has miserably failed to achieve the targets including restoration of peace in JK and managing adequate development in all the three regions of the state.”
“We have decided to pull out of the coalition and give the reigns of the power to the Governor to control the prevailing situation,” Madhav told reporters while addressing a presser in New Delhi.
He said the party wants the governor’s rule to manage the situation.
He said the radicalization, violence has witnessed an upsurge. He said with Shujaat Bukhari’s broad daylight killing, the freedom of speech is in danger.
“It has become untenable for the BJP to continue its alliance government in Jammu and Kashmir, hence we are withdrawing,” he said, adding that “Terrorism, violence and radicalization have risen and fundamental rights of the citizens are under danger in the Valley.”
Reports said that Madhav maintained that the Centre had done everything for the Valley and blamed the Mehbooba Mufti government for not being able to fulfill its promises.
“Our leaders have been facing a lot of difficulties from PDP in developmental works in Jammu & Ladakh,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, following the fallout of PDP-BJP, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has tendered her resignation to Governor.
Mehbooba while addressing a presser later in the evening admitted to have submitted her resignation before the Governor N N Vohra, saying that the alliance between PDP-BJP was not for power and the party has did its best to ensure protection of Article 370.
She also claimed that PDP won’t go for any alliance to form the new dispensation. (KNS)
