Says 3979 sanitary workers were put on job to clear snow

Srinagar, Feb 12 (KNS): As the Valley including the Srinagar’s summer capital, Srinagar received a fresh snowfall, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC)on Monday claimed to have pressed all its men and machinery into service.
“At least 3979 sanitary workers were put on job to clear snow from lanes, by lanes, shrines, mosques, hospitals and other important destinations in the entire Srinagar city,” SMC officials said, adding that it was also ensured that pedestrian walkways and waterlogged streets including Hari Singh High Street, LD hospital, Batamaloo and other areas are cleared off.
“Besides pressing officials into service for manual clearance, several loaders and JCBs are made available for clearance of lanes and by lanes if situation arises,” said Joint Commissioner SMC Syed Abul Qasim under whose supervision the entire process has taken place.
“SMC is swiftly attending to the priority areas wherein dewatering has also been carried out particularly at the commercial hubs in and around Lal Chowk,” said Chief Enforcement Officer Sufi Muhammad Akbar who closely monitored the entire exercise of dewatering and snow clearance.
Furthermore, a Snow Control room headed by Secretary SMC Hilal Ahmed Deewani shall remain active and in case of any complaint the general public can get in touch on helpline number 2474499. (KNS)
