Annual migration of tribal community will not come in their way of exercising their franchise: Mian Altaf

Srinagar, Mar 25 (KNS): Prominent Gujjar leader and senior National Conference leader Mian Altaf Ahmed has criticized the statements where in it has been said that the assembly elections should be delayed in view of the annual migration of the Gujjar and Bakerwal community (nomads) that usually starts from month of May.

In a statement issued to KNS, Mian Altaf said that the annual migration of the tribal community will not be seen as an excuse to delay elections and devoid people of their right to choose an elected government.

“The annual migration will not come in their way of exercising their franchise as they have participated in election process earlier during their time of migration and have largely participated by voting,” Mian Altaf said.

He said that some people want to take advantage and make it an excuse for delaying assembly elections in state which shouldn't happen.

“In The past the elections like 1977, 1983 and 2002 have been conducted in summers and people including tribal community on annual migration largely participated in the voting process,” the statement added.

Mian Altaf said that like other arrangements the election authorities shall make arrangements for the tribal community on move to ensure their full participation in the process. (KNS)
