Srinagar, June 13 (KNS): The deadly suicide attack at KP Road in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district that left five CRPF men dead and a police officer critically injured on Wednesday has sent the security agencies in Kashmir into a tizzy with the Governor S P Malik’s security advisor—K Vijay Kumar stating that the security policy for the Amarnath Yatra will be reframed keeping in view recent and past attacks.

On Wednesday a fidayeen, believed to be foreigner, targeted the CRPF men who were on a patrol at K P Road Anantnag that left five CRPF men dead and five others including a police officer critically wounded.

A top CRPF officer told KNS, that the attack is second of its kind since February 14 suicide attack at Lethpora, Puwlama that left 40 CRPF men dead and dozens other injured.

“Every attack leaves behind a lesson for us to learn and helps us to take precautions to prevent such attacks. But one can’t predict or stop fidayeen from carrying out attacks on forces. We can only effectively repulse them as we did in Anantnag case,” he said. “Attack was repulsed within five minutes and the attacker was killed within no time.”

Talking to reporters at the wreath laying ceremony of five slain CRPF men, the Governor’s advisor, K Vijay Kumar said that extra measures will be taken for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. “There is always a possibility of the causalities in the first burst. Attack was repulsed in seven to ten minutes,” he said.

Meanwhile, top sources revealed to KNS that Director General of CRPF R R Bhatnagar visited the office of Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba in New Delhi and apprised him the situation prevailing in Kashmir, especially Anantnag post Fidayeen attack. Sources said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also sought a detailed report from the security top brass in Kashmir on the situation emerging post Anatnang attack.

“The Home Minister is likely to chair a crucial security meeting in the days ahead in New Delhi to discuss the fall out of the attack. He may also suggest few changes to be made in the security plan to be put in place for the Amarnath Yatra commencing from July 1,” sources privy, to Union Home Minister, told KNS.

They said that the security agencies will also look into the claims made by Al-Umar Mujahideen for the attack. “It is to be seen that whether Al-Umar has been resurrected from across or militant are using its name as a proxy,” said a defence expert. “Investigations are on.” (KNS)
