Srinagar, Dec 18 (KNS): One way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar plied on the National Highway on Wednesday traffic jams reported between Qaizgund and Ramban stretch.
SP Traffic (Rural) Muzaffar Shah told KNS that one-way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu was allowed to ply on the national highway on Wednesday, while on Thursday traffic from Jammu will be allowed to move towards Srinagar.
The officer said due to slippery conditions its is very difficult for Light Motor Vehicles to ply on the road and are taking too much time to cross them due to accumulation of snow.
He said the decision to allow one-way traffic on the highway was taken keeping in mind the safety of the commuters. “Due to landslides and shooting-stones the width of the highway is decreasing and two way traffic is difficult to ply,” he said.
The frequent closure of the highway, only road link between Kashmir and rest of the country, has caused huge problems for the people who have travel outside the Valley. The closure of the highway has also resulted in steep increase in price of vegetables, fruits and other essential items in the Valley. (KNS)
