Srinagar, Feb 15 (KNS): Amid complete shutdown across Jammu against the killing of Central Reserve Police Force (CPRF) personnel in Lethpora attack on Thursday, massive clashes erupted in winter capital of the State on Friday while several vehicles were reportedly torched by the protesters.
The clashes erupted in Gujjar Nagar area of Jammu this morning following the protest over the killing of CRPF men in Kashmir.
Reportedly, several vehicles were also torched that were parked on the roadsides, thus causing huge loss to the people.
The situation turned ugly in Jammu this afternoon; however, the officials said that they brought the situation under control.
Reports reaching to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said at least 12 persons have also sustained injuries in the clashes.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rashid, an employee in Industries department who is also in Jammu at present said that their five vehicles were damaged in Subhash Nagar Tobshar Khani Government quarters here after some youth entered here and resorted to vandalizing their properties.
“Some police personnel and CRPF men were deployed outside the government quarter but despite that the youth managed to enter here and broke the window panes of our five vehicles,” he said.
He added that the incident took place at around 04:30 pm and 05:00 pm, adding that authorities have failed to ensure the safety of employees who are in Jammu as part of Darbar Move.
However, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Tejinder Singh told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the situation across Jammu is under control.
Moreover, as the situation in this afternoon was limping to ugly in Jammu, authorities immediately imposed curfew in Jammu to thwart the protests. The orders for the imposition of curfew were given by the District Magistrate (DM) Jammu.
District Magistrate Jammu in an order issued under number DMJ/Camp/04/2019, dated 15-02-2019 said, “In view of prevailing law and order situation in district Jammu, there is every likelihood of breach of peace which may lead to acts of arson, targeting vehicles and causing loss of life and property.”
“In order to maintain law & order, public tranquility and to protect life and property of general public, I Ramesh Kumar, IAS, district magistrate Jammu in exercise of power vested in me under section 144 Criminal Procedure Code hereby impose curfew in the area of whole Jammu city,” DM Jammu further said in the order.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Range, MK Sinha has appealed for maintaining societal and communal harmony and asked people not to play into the hands of anti-national elements.
Sinha appealed people not to play into the hands of anti- national elements. “They want to disturb our societal harmony. Defeat their designs. Don’t get provoked. Maintain calm,” he said.
He added that constable Naseer of CRPF hailing from Dodason, Rajouri also attained martyrdom. “Our Salute to the brave heart,” he said. (KNS)
