Ahead of official Lok Sabha poll results, parties gear up for celebrations in JK

Srinagar, May 20 (KNS): Unmindful of official results of Lok Sabha elections to be declared on Thursday, almost every party who contests election from Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for jubilations, no matter what the results would be.

The city unit of National conference has gone into celebration mode and is planning a massive firecracker outside the official residence of their candidate Dr Farooq Abdullah. “We are hoping that Dr Farooq Abdullah will repeat the history once again and will win with a good boundary,” senior National Conference leader wished anonymity told KNS.

Another diehard worker of National conference from Srinagar said, “I hope that Dr Farooq Abdullah will be the winner once again. We will organize an even bigger celebration than we did when the last time results of Srinagar parliamentary polls were declared and Dr Farooq Abdullah wins the seat comfortably.”

However the other main political party People’s Democratic party workers and leaders thinks differently and preferring to wait till the results are out. “We will wait near venues where counting will take place. We are sure of our candidate’s victory and once the results are out, we will celebrate the victory of our candidates,” Said one of the leaders of Peoples Democratic Party who is sure about the victory of PDP candidates including Mehbooba Mufti.

Other political party workers and leaders however, keeping a lid on their plans, preferring to wait till the results are out. When KNS contacted party leaders and workers of congress and BJP in the state, they chose to keep mum on their ideas of celebrations. The counting will be started on Thursday and the results will also be declared on the same day.

Meanwhile, confident of some business, firecracker vendors across the state have stocked up on extra firecrackers. “Considering the huge celebrations by the workers of political parties that would be held by the winning parties on Thursday, I have stocked around 100 boxes of crackers worth 20 thousand,” said a local firecracker vendor.

Meanwhile officials said that elaborate security arrangements will be made at all the Counting Centers, which will unveil the fate of parliamentary candidates on Thursday.

“There will be a three tier security cordon in the vicinity of the counting centers. The first line of security manned by the Security forces will be located almost 100 meters from the concerned counting premises. The second line of security will be around the counting premises and the third line of security personnel will be deployed inside the counting halls. The counting centers will follow three-tier cordoning system,” one of the senior government officials wished anonymity told KNS. (KNS)
