Experts term it as ‘worrisome’, says ‘livelihood of many must be protected’

Srinagar, Dec 29 (KNS): The repeated directions from High Court to disallow the illegal constructions in wetland seems to have been ignored on ground as the illegal constructions is still going rampant at various agriculture land including Panzinara area of HMT in Srinagar outskirts.
Sources said that the huge agriculture land spread over 100 kanals in Panzinara is being filled by some unknown persons while authorities are acting as mute spectator with taking no action in this regard.
Experts believe that in case such constructions continue, there will be no land available for the irrigation in near future, terming the filling of agriculture land as worrisome, saying the livelihood of many should be protected by disallowing such filling or illegal constrictions on such lands.
Sources said that since the Governor’s Rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir in July this year, the norm violators are openly occupying the agriculture lands by resorting to filling the land of raising illegal structures over this.
They said no action has been taken against the persons involved in the act, thus providing open hand to the norm violators to occupy the agriculture land.
In Panzinara area, a huge chunk of land spread over 100 kanals is being filled while as a temporary road has also been made to for tippers to carry the soil aimed to fill the wetland.
The authorities have repeatedly claimed to have tightened noose against the illegal constructions besides claiming to have demolished several structures.
However, the ongoing filling of land amid claims have raised eyebrows on the tall claims of the authorities with locals saying the officials are also in hand in glove in this regard and have failed to act against the norm violators.
The locals in Panzinara have also expressed resentment against the filling of agriculture land and have demanded stern action against the norm violators.
They appealed the higher ups including Governor Satya Pal Malik and concerned Municipal authorities to look into the matter and stop the filling of agriculture land at an earliest so that the land could be preserved for irrigation purpose, a sole bread earning purpose for many.
It is worth to mention here that High Court (HC) has been repeatedly directing the authorities concerned to disallow the construction on such lands and other places besides directing them to act tough against those involved in it. (KNS)
