Jammu, Feb 08 (KNS): The private member's bills seeking the blanket ban on liquor in Jammu & Kashmir moved by NC MLA from Ganderbal and Congress MLA from Inderwal G M Saroori in the legislative assembly was introduced for consideration by the government after pandemonium in the assembly
According to the KNS correspondent, as the bill was presented in the house the opposition members equivocally supported the bill seeking ban on liquor but the ruling PDP-BJP alliance was divided over the issue.
Opposition questioned the opposition of BJP members to bills seeking ban on liquor with the argument the BJP government in Gujrat the home state of Prime Minister Modi has already banned liquor. The opposition members also said that several BJP rule states have also based interests.
The Law Minister Abdul Haq Khan who himself had presented a bill on liquor ban during reign of Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress coalition government stood up and said that government has no objection if the bill is introduced for consideration by the government. The bill was put to vote for consideration by the government which the house passed in the assembly. (KNS)
