Achabal residents demand Degree College, observe shutdown to press for demands

Srinagar, Jan 17 (KNS): A complete shutdown was observed in Achabal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday to protest against the successive regimes for failing to establish a Degree College in the area.
All the shops and business establishments remained closed in Achabal throughout the day while as the traffic was also thin on the roads.
The shutdown call was given by Auqaf Committee Achabal supported by Awqafs of adjacent villages of Achabal against the recent government order in which there was no motion of Degree Colleges Achabal in the list prepared by the government.
The protest to press the government over their demands of establishing Degree College in Achabal is going on from last two days.
The locals while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that Achabal being the centrally located town and famous tourist resort deserve a Degree College but unfortunately, the authorities have so far failed to do so.
They said that Govt had promised them of establishing a Degree College in Achabal but nothing has been done in this regard, therefore the people especially the student community has been left to lurch at large.
“This is sheer injustice with the people of Achabal and adjacent areas,” locals said, appealing the Governor led administration to look into the genuine demands of locals. (KNS)
