Jammu, Dec 03 (KNS): Minister for Rural Development Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq Khan today inaugurated Block Development Council complex in remote village of Mansar in Udhampur district.
The complex was constructed at the cost of Rs 30 lakhs under 13th FC and was a long pending demand of the local population owing to lack of space for holding official meetings related to Block Development Council. The Minister was accompanied by ACD Udhampur Angrez Singh, concerned BDO and other senior officers of the district.
On the occasion minister said the government aims to develop infrastructure in rural areas on modern lines without disturbing the local eco system and the environment. He said he prefers eco-friendly constructions and in this regard he has directed officials to prefer to be eco-friendly while developing infrastructure in rural areas.
Minister said development of departmental infrastructure is equally important as it will increase the efficiency of working among the officials which ultimately be depicted in the overall performance of the officers. He said the building inaugurated by him will provide space to the officials to hold regular meetings with the public to deliberate over the implementation of various schemes in the area.
The Minister also conducted extensive tour of Mansar and its adjoining areas to take stock of ongoing development works besides assessing availability of basic amenities there. During the tour, locals apprised the minister about various problems being faced by them with regard to the availability of basic amenities. The minister gave patient hearing to the delegations and assured them to raise the issues with concerned quarters and also passed on spot directions for redresal of various grievances related to his own ministry.
Minister appeals people to act as eyes and ears of the government by keeping watch of the various ongoing developmental projects to ensure quality is maintained in the execution of works. He said people should actively participate in the governance and that does not end with the election of representatives. He said a representative cannot be at every place at the same time and hence people have to be active and keep track of the developmental activities taking place in their respective areas. He appealed people to actively participate in Gram Sabhas so that they can decide themselves for their respective villages. (KNS)
