APs Kashmiri photojournalist Dar Yasin, Mukhtar Khan win Pulitzer

Srinagar, May 6 (KNS): Three Associated Press(AP) phojournalists including two Kashmiris won a Pulitzer in feature photography for images made during clampdown on Kashmir after abrogation of Article 370.

AP Photographers Dar Yasin, Mukhtar Khan and Channi Anand snaked around roadblocks, sometimes took cover in strangers’ homes and hid cameras in vegetable bags to capture images of protests, police and paramilitary action and daily life, AP said.

"Then they headed to an airport to persuade travelers to carry the photo files out with them and get them to AP’s office in New Delhi," AP said.

“It was always cat-and-mouse,” Yasin said, later adding: “These things made us more determined than ever to never be silenced,” AP quoted the photojouranlist after winning the award.

The Pulitzer Prize was established over 100 years ago to honor exceptional achievements in journalism. Since its inception, the award has grown to include 21 different categories, ranging from literature to musical composition.
