Srinagar, Oct 23 (KNS): J&K director general of police Dilbagh Singh today said Al Qaeda affiliated Ansar Gazwat-ul Hind (AGH) has been wiped out from Kashmir with the killing of three local militants at Awantipore in Pulwama.

“Yesterday three militants of AGH were killed all of them were locals,’’ Singh said at a press conference in Srinagar “ With their killing the AGH in Kashmir has been wiped out The area is safe now.’’

He said the operation was carried out as part of the intensified anti militancy operation in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5.

He said there was some confusion about the identity of the militants but later it was found that all three, Hamid Lelhari, Naveed and Junaid were locals.

He said after AGH chief Zakir Musa was killed, command was given to Lelhari.

He was responsible for motivating Naveed and Junaid of pulwama to join AGH.

He said AGH was coordinating with Jaish-e-Muhammad and Hizul Mujahideen .

He said Lelhari was active since 2016 .He was involved in Kakpora attack and killing of policeman Fayaz Ahmed and some civilians.

“He was also involved in harassing people in Awantipora,’’ Singh said. He said Junaid’s brother was also a militants.

“We feel sorry that two of them were belonged to same family and went on a wrong path ,’’ DGP said.

He said some unfortunate incidents happened in Pulwama like the killing of a migrant worker S S Sagar from Chattisgarh, and an apple trader and driver Charnjit Singh, from Punjab while his truck driver Sanjiv Kumar was injured.

He said after the killings, they carried a review of the security.

“Militants are interfering in people’s lives and they don’t desist from killing people to stop them from doing their routine work,’’ he said.

He said they boys who are treading the wrong path to shun violence and return to normal life.

“After August 5, lesser number of boys have join militancy than before,’’ he said. “ Five to six are missing. Maybe there are missing for other reason than militancy.’’

He said the situation in Kupwara and Baramulla is normal and it is difficult to move on the roads there due to traffic.

He said shops are open and many vendors are doing business. situation in Bandipore is the same. He said the situation is the same in Bandipore.

“We hope that the winds of normalcy that blown from north south Kashmir also,’’ he said.

He rejected speculations that cell phone will be blocked again in Kashmir

“There are no such plans,’’ he said “‘’ “The situation demanded cells phone to be shut but after the situation improved, phones were restored.’’

About infiltration, Singh said sizable number of militants gave infiltrated after August 5.

“Many attempts have been foiled at Keeran, Karana, Machil, Uri etc,’’ he said.

About detaining of youngsters and people by police, DGP said a lot misinformation is being circulated.

“Detentions are done on solid grounds,’’ he said. “Four out of five people detained are released. we are not found of keeping people unnecessarily.’’

He said after verification and counselling boys have been set free. They have not created any issues after that.

Cases of juveniles have been referred to juvenile justice board wherever there was doubt about their age.
