74th Independence Day held at Anantnag

Anantnag August 15: (KNS) Like other parts of the UT of J&K, 74th Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm at district Anantnag also. The main function was held at GDC Boys Khannabal, where District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Mr. KK Sidha unfurled the tricolour and addressed the participants.

The contingents of CRPF, Executive Police, IRP, District Ladies Police, Home guards and District Police Band participated but no parade was held in view of the COVID – 19 situations. In addition, a good number of citizens witnessed the event, following all the SOPs.

In his Independence Day Speech, the DDC Anantnag paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives for achieving the freedom from the British Rule, which enabled the nation in achieving milestones of development in all fields of life. He praised the role of the frontline workers in creating mass awareness regarding COVID – 19 and combating it.

The DDC on the occasion, highlighted the achievements of the district under various sectors including, Education, Healthcare, Communication, Agriculture & Allied Sectors, Rural Development, Road Connectivity, creation of Durable & sustainable assets, completion of Languishing Projects across the district, effective implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes & flagship programmes under, PM KISAN, MNREGA, PMAY, PMGSY, DDUY, Jal Shakti Abhiyan & Ayushman Bharat. He added that under construction Sports Stadium Bijbehara would be provided with all sorts of latest facilities for all kinds of sports & games, which would be the first of its kind in the UT of J&K where all kinds of games & sport will be played. He also added that a Composite Social Welfare Centre would be set up in the district having all the facilities including an orphanage Home, Old Age Home, Library and all other facilities.

Cultural wing of DIC Anantnag presented a colourful programme on the occasion.

The Frontline Workers were awarded with certificates and cash award. Also, the students who participated in various online completions regarding combating COVID – 19 were awarded with certificates, mementoes, Tabs, Smart Phones and Laptops according to their performance.

Among others, DIG South Kashmir, SSP Anantnag, Commandants of CRPF, IRP and officers from district Administration, ward members, Panchs & Sarpanchs and political leaders were also present on the occasion.

Similar functions were also held at Sub Divisional & Tehsil Levels, where the concerned SDMS and Tehsildars unfurled the tricolour.(KNS)
