BSF emerges winner, beats Punjab Police in Finals

Jammu, Feb 11 (KNS): The 66th Bola Nath Mullik Memorial All India Police football championship was declared closed at Gulshan ground here today at a colourful closing ceremony, by Deputy CM Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh. The function began with a colourful march past of 37 participating teams led by Dare Devil team of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The championship was won by BSF after beating Punjab Police in the final match played at Jammu University.
Deputy Chief Minister who was the chief guest on the occasion distributed championship Cup and mementoes among the teams and officials.
Director General of Police, Dr. S.P Vaid, who was chairman of organizing committee of the championship, in his welcome address, said that more than 900 players of 37 teams and 120 officials from all over the country participated in the competition which was spread over eleven days. He said that 84 matches were played in the championship. He said elaborate arrangements made for the teams and the staff were possible because of the efforts of the organizing committee particularly the Organizing Secretary, Shri A.K Choudhary. He said that all the possible arrangements for enjoyable stay including the sightseeing programme were made and hoped that the players and visiting officials have enjoyed the hospitality of J&K Police.
Highlighting the achievements of J&K Police and its good track record in sports, the DGP said that 19th all India Band competition will be held in Srinagar this year in September. He said that J&K Police has been promoting sports in the state and has organized various national and state level tournaments in the State. He announced that J&K police will welcome and provide a helping hand to those outstanding sports persons of state who need any assistance in shape of exposure/advance trainings outside state.
Dr. A.K Verma, Representative from All India Police Sports Control Board read out the report of the board. He enumerated the achievements of B.N Mullik and said that from over a century police and CAPF personnel of the country have brought laurels for the country in international and national events and have won hundreds of medals in Police and Fire games, besides Common Wealth and other competitions. He said that Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) of the country were entrusted with the organization of under-19 FIFA World Cup which they did befittingly.
Dr. Verma added that because of these achievements, the country has honoured Police and CAPFs by bestowing upon them Padma Awards and sports awards like Arjuna Award etc. He complemented the DGP Dr. S.P Vaid for excellent arrangements for organizing the event
Souvenir of the Championship was released by Dr. Nirmal Singh, DGP, Dr. S. P Vaid, Chairperson PWWA, Bharti Vaid, Dr. A.K Verma, DG Prisons, Dilbag Singh and ADGP, Armed, Shri A.K Choudhary.
Vote of thanks was presented by ADGP, Armed Shri A.K Choudhary. He thanked the chief guest, Chairperson PWWA, Representative from AIPSCB, officials, departments and wings, who were involved in organization of the championship. He also thanked the DGP for his unflinching support for successful conduct of the event. (KNS)
