Srinagar, July 23 (KNS): Strict curbs were imposed in Kashmir Valley on Thursday after huge surge in Covid-19 caseloads were reported from couple of weeks with subsequent deaths.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), authorities imposed strict restriction in Srinagar and other parts of Valley, a day after the UT Government announced another phase of lockdown across the Valley to contain the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. The fresh order from the Government kept north Kashmir’s Bandipora district excluded which once was turned hotbed for the pandemic.
Authorities have deployed police and paramilitary personnel across the Valley to ensure the enforcement of fresh lockdown in letter and spirit. Also barricades have been put in place on vital locations in several parts to stop unnecessary vehicular movement.
The six-day lockdown in the Valley came into effect on Wednesday evening following the spike in Covid-19 figures from last three weeks.
Due to heavy deployment of forces personnel, people have preferred to stay indoors while only medical emergencies can been seen moving in the districts. Several roads and business hubs have been sealed with concertina wire and barriers in order to curtail public movement.
Shops, business establishments and petrol pumps were shut while public transport was off the road.
Authorities in its fresh order have clarified that agriculture, horticulture and construction activities will be allowed according to the guidelines set up by Disaster Management. The movement of goods carriers, LPG and oil tankers will also be continued unhindered.
Since outbreak of deadly Covid-19 pandemic in J&K, the number of positive patients has swallowed over 15800 while 283 persons have lost their lives so far among which major portion belongs to Kashmir Valley. (KNS)
