4 LeT Militants, one of them in Burka attacked BJP leader’s house in Nowgam: IGP

Srinagar, April 1 (KNS): Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said on Thursday said four militants of Lashkar Toiba carried out attack at the residence of BJP leader in Nowgam area of Srinagar Srinagar in which a policeman was killed and a rifle was snatched.


“I have inspected crime spot.  one sentry was on guard duty and two others were in guard room. CCTV footage shows that a burka-clad militant came in woman voice asked the sentry to open the door. the IGP told reporters according to KNS correspondent.


" As soon he opened the door, two more militants came and fired indiscriminately,” he added.

 The slain policeman was identified as Rameez Raja of Anantnag district.
However the BJP leader, Anwar Khan, was not at his residence, when his house was attacked..  

“As they fired on him , a militant came and snatched the rifle. Two of the attackers have been identified and are from Srinagar city , affiliated with LeT outfit,” the top police officer said, “One is Khurshid from Chanapora who is a categorized militant and another is Obaid shafi Dar. They are among six youth who joined militant ranks last year. Two other militants are yet to be identified.”

The IGP added that they will be very soon  pinpointed  and neutralized.

“We have been carrying out many operations but got no success so far in February and March. There was also CASO in Chanapora today,” he added.  (KNS)
