33.45 cums silt removed from Asias largest fresh water, Wular Lake

Bandipora Dec 26 :(KNS) Chief Executive Director, WUCMA visits Bandipore, reviews Wular Lake Conservation works at site
APCCF/Chief Executive Director WUCMA, Shri. Syed Farooq Gillani, today visited the interiors of Wular Lake and the work site of ongoing restoration works and had a detailed inspection of worksites and review of progress with the officials.
The Chief Executive Director was accompanied by officers of the authority which included Shri Irfan Rasool Wani, Coordinator Water Management, Shri. Siraj-ud-din Shah,Superintending Engineer; Mudasir Mehmood, Coordinator Catchment Area; Divisional Forest Officer, Bandipora and other officers.
Coordinator Water Management briefed the Chief Executive Director about the de-siltation works being carried out and the various other measures being taken for holistic development of the lake and its adjoining areas.
Chief Executive Director was also accompanied by Dr Tasneem Keng, Scientist and other senior officers of Department of Ecology Environment & Remote Sensing, J&K. The department has been assigned the task of Internal monitoring of the restoration works under Wular Action Plan.
The Chief Exceutive Director directed the officers to ensure quality of work is not compromised. The officers were further advised to take geo-tagged photographs of works at each stage of execution.
The locals of the area were appreciative of the restoration works being undertaken and expressed positivity about the socio-economic benefits of the project activities in form of improved livelihood opportunities.
As on date 33.45 lac cum silt
has been dredged out against a target 63.93lac cum, restoring an area of 1.5 sqkm. The restoration works are going on full pace and all works are expected to be completed on schedule.(KNS)
