3 teachers of Shopian school booked under PSA

Srinagar, Oct 12 (KNS): Three teachers of a religious seminary in south Kashmir’s Shopian district were booked under stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) by Jammu and Kashmir Police after it came it fore that few of its students and alumni were found involved in militant related activities.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar said that the seminary is affiliated with banned outfit Jama’at-e-Islami and added after it was found that few of its alumni were involved in anti-national and militant activities, three of its teachers have been booked under PSA.
“The school (Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom) is already under observation. We have booked its three teachers namely Abdul Ahad Bhat, Rouf Ahmad Bhat and Mohammad Yousuf Wani under PSA”, IGP said.
He added the matter does not close here but others staff members of the school are under surveillance.
“Activities of five to six teachers of the school are under surveillance (under Section 107 CrPC). The school is affiliated with JeI. Right now we are taking action against individuals and if need arises, we will take action against the school too”, IGP said.
Pertinently Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom of Shopian district came under the scanner of investigating agencies after 13 of its students were found involved to have joined militant groups. Its alumni include Sajad Bhat, an accused in the February 2019 suicide attack on a CRPF convoy in Lehtpora Pulwama district that left 40 forces personnel dead. (KNS)
