2 LeT militants killed in Shopian gunfight

 
Srinagar, Mar 09 (KNS): An encounter broke out between government forces and militants in Khojapora, Reban hamlet of Shopian district during intervening night of 08/09 March that ended with the killing of two militants.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a police official told that during intervening night of 08-09 March, 2020 a specific input was received by Shopian Police about the presence of LeT militants hiding in villagte Khojapora, Reban Shopian falling in the jurisdiction of Police Station Zainapora.
“Acting upon the input, a joint CASO by Shopian Police, 1 RR and 178 BN of CRPF was launched. During the search operation, the hiding militants tried to break the cordon by firing indiscriminately upon the search party. However the troops immediately took cover and retaliated during which two militants were killed”, he said.
Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) Vijay Kumar while confirming to KNS said that two militants of LeT were killed during the encounter and were identified as Shabir Ahmad Malik alias Abu Maviya S/o Abdul Ahad Malik R/o Tungduno, Yaripora Kulgam and Aamir Ahmad Dar S/o Ghulam Mohammad Dar R/o Wadina, Malhora, Shopian.
Kumar added that Shabir was active since December 2017 however another slain militant Aamir was active since August 2019. He also said that Shabir was Pakistan trained militant and was involved in various terror related cases in south Kashmir.
According to police, 01 AK-47 rifle, 01 UBGL, 01 AK-47 magazine, 01 Chinese Pistol, 01 magazine of Chinese Pistol and 05 no’s 9 mm live rounds were recovered from the encounter site.
“In this connection, case under FIR No. 11/2020 u/s 16, 18, 19 ULA (P) Act, 7/27 I Arms Act, 307 IPC, have been registered in police station Zainapora for further investigations”, police sources said.
As per local reports, the house of Abdul Samad in which militants were taken shelter got damaged in exchange of fire.
Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, internet services have been suspended till further orders in Kulgam and Shopian districts of southern Kashmir. (KNS)
