100 additional companies of CAPFs to be rushed to Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 26 (KNS): The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to deploy 100 additional companies of central armed police forces (CAPFs) in Jammu and Kashmir.

An order vide no: III-11018/1/2019-G/P-II dated 25-07-2019 in this regard was issued by the MHA states, “In order to strengthen the counter insurgency (CI) grid as well as for maintaining law and order situations in J&K, additional 100 coys of CAPFs shall be deployed in the state.”

The order has been sent to the J&K Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) by the Center for compliance.

There were already 300 additional companies of the CAPFs deployed in the state during the Parliament elections, who were asked to stay back for annual Amarnathji yatra duties. With yatra concluding on August 15, sources said, additional deployment of 100 more companies of CAPFs is an indication that the Center is considering to take some policy decisions which may result in civilian unrest.

They said that National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and some top intelligence officials have been camping in Kashmir for the past some days to get a first-hand account of the prevailing ground situation in the valley.

“The NSA and top officials of intelligence agencies met several people, including those from the security grid, and some politicians in close door meetings away from the media glare,” sources privy to the development told KNS. (KNS)
