10 persons including 5 forces personnel killed in Avalanches in Kupwara, Ganderbal

 Srinagar Jan 14 (KNS):  Three members of a family among 10 persons lost their lives in snow avalanches during 48 hours in Kupwara and Ganderbal districts of Kashmir triggered by heavy snowfall.

 
Taking to KNS, SP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal said , five civilians died after they came under snow avalanche in Gund Kullan area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday afternoon.
 
The civilians who came under snow avalanche in Kullan Ganderbal were identified as Mohammad Sadiq Thikri Son of Chandiyan Thikri and his two sons -Showket Ahmad (30),  Ishtiyaq Ahmad Thikri (22) residents of Kulan. Mohammad Akber Bhat  (38) son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat resident of Gagengeer Sonamarg  and Dawood Koshi (75) .
 
 Reports also said that four army personnel of 45 RR were buried under snow avalanche in Machil sector in Kupwara on Monday. Three bodies have been recovered from the snow and the rescue operation in the area is going on to recover the fourth body.
 
In another incident in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district, a forward post of BSF came under snow avalanche which resulted in death of one of its personal.
 
Reports reaching to KNS said that several houses, cowsheds, and other structures were damaged in snow avalanches in Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla districts.
 
According to Met Department, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.7 Celsius while ski resort Gulmarg settled at minus 9.5 Celsius and Pahalgam recorded minus 7.6 Celsius. Leh town in Ladakh settled at minus 5.5 Celsius.
