06 militant associates involved in ‘highway attacks’ arrested; vehicles used for also seized: IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar

Srinagar, Oct 16 (KNS): While claiming to have cracked the network of militant associates in Srinagar who were involved in series of attacks on security forces on Srinagar - Jammu highway, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range Vijay Kumar on Friday said that police have arrested six militant associates from whose possession six vehicles, three bikes and other incriminating material were seized.
Addressing a presser in Police Station Panthachowk, outskirts of Srinagar city, IGP has said that militants carried out series of attacks on highway from the period of August 14 to October 5 that include an attack on Police and SSB men at Nowgam, Srinagar on August 14 in which two policemen were killed and one INSAS rifle was also snatched by the assailants.
“On September 21, militants attacked Road Opening Party (ROP) at new Bypass followed by another attack on September 25 in Chardoora area of Budgam district in which militants attacked CRPF party in which one CRPF personnel was killed while his weapon was also snatched during the attack. Similarly another attack was carried out on October 5, when militant fired upon ROP of CRPF at Taingan Bypass, resulting two CRPF men killed on spot while four others sustained injuries”, IGP told reporters.
IGP said that in order to solve the attacks, several teams were constituted by the Police West Zone Srinagar. “Police identified 9 to 10 suspects who were subsequently picked up by constituted teams. During questioning and investigations, the teams were able to identity the links through human intelligence. According raids were carried out in several parts including Chadoora, Budgam, Nowgam and other areas of Srinagar district”, Kumar has said.
He added the suspects were subjected to sustained interrogation and during the course of time they confessed about their involvement and the militants involved. He also added that location of the accommodations where militants involved in these attacks were hiding at Barzulla, Srinagar was also obtained by using human intelligence.
“We have arrested six militant associates identified as Waseem Ahmad Ganaie of Chadoora, Faisal Mushtaq of Aribagh Nowgam, Shakir Ahmad Dar of Kakpora Pulwama, Suhail Shabir Ganaie of Chattergam, Chadoora, Umar Nisar of Iqbal Colony Wanbal Nowgam and Sahil Nisar of Aribagh Nowgam”, IGP said.
He further said that six vehicles were also seized from the arrested militant associates that include Tavera, Pulsar bike, Yamaha bike, Alto while colour, Alto-800 and another Bike. (KNS)
