Some people in Govt want to deteriorate situation: Mian Altaf

Srinagar, Jan 23 (KNS): Senior National Conference leader and MLA Kangan Mian Altaf Tuesday said that minorities were feeling “unsafe” in Jammu and Kashmir.
Altaf, the former minister, said that minorities especially Gujjars were feeling unsafe in the state. “Gujjars feel unsafe due to policies of the PDP-BJP government,” Altaf, told KNS over phone from Jammu.
He accused that there were some people in the government who were “deteriorating” the situation in the state. “Gujjars feel unsecure because of these people in the present government,” the NC leader said.
He said that minorities were feeling unsafe because government had given them (few BJP people) a free hand to create “unsuitable” situation for people. “Mehbooba Mufti led government is completely silent and is not responding,” he said.
On the recent murder of eight-year-old Gujjar girl in Kuthua, Altaf said that government failed to deal with the issue. “Government is only issuing contradicting statements and is confused. First the government said that police is investigating the case, then said magisterial enquiry and now the case has been handed over to Crime Branch. Why is there so much of confusion instead punishing the culprits,” he said.
He said that opposition raised all the issues of people in the assembly. “But the government failed to respond our queries,” he said.
He claimed there is no accountability in the present government. “Government is confused, directionless. While people are facing immense problems,” he added.
NC’s Mian Altaf also suggested the government to form a team of MLAs who would visit the border areas and take stock of the situation.
“This government has failed. There is no seriousness towards border people,” he maintained.
The National Conference leader also held Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti responsible for persecution and growing incidents of violence against Gujjars and Bakerwals in Jammu, saying that being in-charge of the home ministry she has failed in enforcing rule of law and reining in the coalition partner BJP, which has let lose its various wings to unleash scare among minorities.
Mian Altaf further added that PDP and BJP were superintending terror against their own people to satiate the agenda of New Delhi. “The present coalition is deliberately disturbing the situation so that the people are subjected to harassment and humiliation”. (KNS)
