Srinagar, Mar 20 (KNS): The state police on Tuesday claimed that the ‘mastermind’ of Kathua rape and murder case of a minor girl, Aasifa Bano has surrendered today.
Director General of Police (DGP), Shesh Pal Vaid told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the mastermind of the Kathua rape and murder case has surrendered in this morning.
The mastermind as per the officials was identified as Sanji Ram, the ex-revenue official.
On January 10 this year, Aasifa was kidnapped near her home and her body was later recovered in the forest area of Rasana a week later.
DGP told KNS that the son of the ‘mastermind’, Vishal was also arrested from Uttar Pradesh. “His son was also involved in the rape and murder case of a minor girl,” DGP asserted.
Earlier, the crime branch had arrested a Sub-Inspector, head constable, two Special Police Officers including the main accused, among seven people in the case.
The Kathua incident was widely condemned by the every section of the society while the opposition political parties were demanding stern action against the culprits involved in the case.
The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had also assured justice to the victim’s family, saying that those involved in the case won’t go unpunished.
However, the Hindu Ekta Manch also protested in favour of the accused arrested in the case. (KNS)
